LTC Preparation Begins for Youth Group

Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) is a regional program that has been the foundation of the congregation’s youth program for several years, but perhaps more importantly it is a tool that parents and children can use to promote personal and group spiritual growth. On December 2, members of the youth group met with congregational leaders and adult volunteers to register and to plan for the Heart of America LTC convention in Kansas City this coming spring. Time still remains to for children in third through twelfth grades to register to participate.

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” LTC participation helps a child to grow in individual skills like writing an essay or poem, speaking or reading the Bible publicly, or artwork, but also gives opportunity to engage in a group project like puppet theatre, drama, singing group, Bible quiz team or a banner project. The group participation builds a sense of belonging, but also teaches responsibility to others when working together to achieve a goal.

The hallway in our education wing is adorned with banners, artwork, and photographs produced by our youth group in previous years of LTC. In 2016, a picture of our Bible quiz team appeared in Christian Chronicle, an international newspaper for Churches of Christ. Although our team was inexperienced, studying together for the quiz increased Bible knowledge and cohesiveness.

LTC provides an avenue where children can grow in confidence as they learn and master skills that will equip them to serve as leaders for the church in decades to come. Future preachers preach short sermons and write essays. Future preachers, elders, deacons, and Bible class teachers study together for the Bible quiz and work on projects together. Future song leaders learn that skill and also learn to sing better by singing with a group.

For more information about participating, contact the church office or one of the elders.
