NEWS FROM BILL IN MONGOLIA

October 19, 2011

It's now seven weeks in Mongolia and time for a brief report on my activities. The first two weeks were quite hectic due to the surprise closing of the English Language College in Zuunmod. In addition to that, I was having trouble getting a visa. (I still do not have visa.) However, I was able to get a 90-day extension. (I will need to get another extension for 60 days the first part of November.)

I have a nice two-room apartment centrally located in Ulaam Baatar (UB). I still go back to Zuunmod on alternate Sundays to teach a lesson at the little church of my friend Sende. (Many of you met Sende and his lovely wife Sumiya during their visit with us last year.)

My primary goal is to make as many personal contacts as possible with Mongolian students enrolled online with the World English Institute. Approximately 25 names with e-mail addresses were sent to me by Perry Taylor. (He is the preacher of the Cloverdale Church of Christ in Florence, AL.) Of these references I have been able to personally contact nine. (Others contacted did not care to meet.)

The general interest of these students is English. A minority have shown active interest in Christianity. With each contact visit, I present the student with the NKJV the New Testament - used by the We Care program. I show them how to use the book and offer an invitation for one-on-one study. This has developed into a weekly Saturday morning class from 09:30 to 11:30. At present I have seven students signed up in the class.

In addition to the above, I help Kingsley Obioma Osuala at his school (Harvest Language Kingdom). Kingsley is from Nigeria and is an English Language teacher with a degree in education. He is married to a wonderful Mongolian young woman who is learning English. (She is one of my students in the Saturday class.)  I now have seven students signed up with this class, and with the Lord's blessings, it will grow. The class is in addition to one-on-one studies I have scattered about. I estimate that I walk three to four miles five days a week to meet with students.

This is all for now. God bless you all. And thanks for keeping this work in your prayers. They truly help!
